Welcome to Slapstick Sports
A publication dedicated to whimsy and cutting takes in sports from Aidan, Noah, Ben, and Joey
Welcome to the first-ever edition of Slapstick Sports, a podcast and newsletter about the world of athletics. In this first dispatch from us, we’ll tell you a bit about us and why we’re here. In the future, you’ll be able to both read about our sports takes AND hear us, as we’ll publish a podcast as well.
Why we wanted to put this together:
It’s our WISE Project
Second-semester seniors at The Leffell School participate in an internship program of their choosing. We chose to work on a sports journalism/podcast placement with Arielle Nissenblatt, who attended Leffell when it was known as Solomon Schechter (she was in the class of 2010).
We love sports
You’ll quickly learn more about our love for all sports.
We love talking about sports
We do it all the time.
We are interested in broadcast journalism
Most of us are interested in some sort of sports-related major when we head off to college in the fall.

Who are we?:
Aidan Gurvitch is a senior at The Leffell School, an avid New York sports fan, and a veteran Fantasy Football writer for 5th Down Fantasy. He is well-versed in all things football. He has also followed and played baseball for as long as he can remember. Aidan will be studying Sport Analytics at Syracuse University in the fall and hopes to further his career in the sports industry.
Ben Wanderman was born and raised in New Jersey. He fell in love with playing and watching soccer from a young age. He’s played for club and school teams along with a summer playing in Enguerra, Spain. He also coached the sport for a summer in Tenafly, NJ. Ben is proficient in Spanish and has conversational level proficiency with Hebrew. Ben will be studying at Northeastern University next year, considering a major in film and media studies or pre-law.
Joey Bond is a senior at The Leffell School in Hartsdale, New York, and is from New Rochelle, New York. He is a die-hard New York sports fan and has played baseball from a young age. He has been on the varsity baseball team since his sophomore year and has been captain since his junior year. Next year, he will be studying at Binghamton University.
Noah Holmgren lives in New York City and is a senior at The Leffell School. He is a New York sports fanatic. He follows all of the major sports and loves to share his breadth of knowledge with anyone who will listen. He wrote for the All New York Sports blog before it shuttered in 2022. He was the captain of the varsity soccer team, playing as the goalkeeper for four years. Noah will be studying at Ithaca College with a Sports Media major to further his knowledge and interest in sports. He also plans to explore the broadcasting side of sports.
